Condition Based Servicing (CBS)

CBS explained......

Later BMW models use a service system called Condition Based Servicing or CBS, an adaptive system that monitors the usage patterns of the car and calculates the service requirements accordingly. The system is designed to get maximum service life out of the components on your car and therefore reduce servicing costs. It can even give you an estimation of the remaining service of your brake pads to ensure you get maximum use from them. The car can give you an accurate read out of the upcoming service requirements through either the ‘idrive’ system (if fitted) or the instrument cluster (accessed using the indicator stalk).

We can read your service data from your Key!

The service requirements can also be read out from your key using our BMW KeyReader, often the easiest way to determine the cars servicing needs. An understanding of this system is crucial for garages to be able to provide the kind of care your BMW or MINI needs without replacing unnecessary parts and incurring extra costs.

CBS Service Symbols:

Oil Service

Oil Service

The Oil Service consists of an Engine oil and filter replacement with a pre-flush added to the old oil to break down contaminants before draining. Some models also incorporate the microfilter replacement as part of the oil service. Air filter and fuel filter (diesel) or spark plugs (petrol) are also required at every 2nd or 3rd oil service depending on model. A basic health check of the car is also carried out at every oil service.

Rear Brakes

Rear Brakes

The Rear Brake service consists of replacing the rear brake pads and sensor. The condition and thickness of the brake discs are checked as well as the handbrake condition and replaced if necessary also.

MOT

Statutory Vehicle Inspection (MOT)

The Statutory Vehicle Inspection is what is known as the MOT in the UK. This service light acts as a reminder for your MOT. The due date can be very easily adjusted in the car via the idrive or instrument cluster.

Microfilter

Microfilter

The Microfilter Service consists of replacement of the Air Conditioning system Microfilter (sometimes referred to as a pollen filter). This service light is only present if the microfilter replacement is not integrated into the oil service on your particular model.

Spark Plugs

Spark Plug

The Spark Plug service consists of replacement of all the spark plugs. This service light is only present if the spark plugs replacement is not integrated into the oil service schedules on your model.

Vehicle Check

Vehicle Check

The Vehicle Check Service consists of a thorough inspection of the car and all its systems including but not limited to tyres, brakes, suspension, seat belts, lights, wipers, fluids, etc. It also includes a fault memory check of all of the cars systems.

DPF

Diesel Particle Filter (DPF)

The Diesel Particulate Filter service consists of replacing the filter and registering this replacement in the engines control unit as well as resetting the service light. The service is only applicable to certain models. This warning light can also appear randomly to inform you of a problem with your DPF.

Brake Fluid

Brake Fluid

The Brake Fluid service consists of flushing the brake hydraulic system with new brake fluid on regular 2 yearly intervals regardless of mileage. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture over its lifetime in the vehicle. The water content in turn lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid which can lead to air bubbles forming in the fluid, presenting a safety and braking performance issue.

Front Brakes

Front Brakes

The Front Brake service consists of replacing the front brake pads and sensor. The condition and thickness of the brake discs are checked at this point and replaced if necessary also.
